As a UW student, I have more respect to UT than you have. Of course, if you do not want to study for Ph.D., UW is also a good choice.

UT vs. UW in CS

undergrad. UW is better. (Bill Gates prefer
the undergraduate students from UW. But the
undergraduate study is very tough, very hard
to graduate. And some students even have to
quit in the middle.)

master. no great difference.

Ph.D. UT is far better. Most UT Ph.D. graduates
work as faculty, while most UT Ph.D. graduates
go to industry. You can see a lot of professors
from UT in most top US universities, including
MIT and UCBerkeley. But there seldom from UW.

(Unfortunately, I am a Ph.D. student in UW)

Application: I guess UW is easier to apply.

In both UT and UW, all graduate students,
including master students, are fully supported
in the forms of TA/RA and scholarships. If you
are an international student, they will provide
you with some extra funding to cover the tuition difference between international students and
natives.

    • Waterloo university is the first.
      • University of Toronto is the best. But it is the most difficult to apply
        • Waterloo is the best in Canada, and the top 3 in North America. Waterloo graduates are Bill Gates' favorites. UT is much worse, can't even get into top 20 in North America.

            • I noticed it's really highly competitive to get a permanent position at some depts of UT, i.e., CS and commerce.
you know what, sb worked as assistant prof for 6 yrs in mid 80's---I believe s/he did work hard, who else wouldn't---but still couldn't make his/her position permanent, and now UT hires her/him back as lectuerer. btw, I was told EE@UT just hired two Chinese assistant profs.
              • I think you mean tenure. Most faculty member have to struggle for 5 years of so to get his associate prof. postion and tenure. After he/she gets tenure, the univ. can not fire him/her.
                • yeah, that\'s why I feel it\'s so cruel to fire somebody who already works as assistant professor for 6 yrs.
          • FT, I guess you don't really know IT industry.
            • what's your meaning? zara.
              • ask any student from ee/cs at Uwaterloo or UT or anybody who really dives in IT industry, you would find most people will agree with cc.
